Prepare Ahead of Time ⏳
- Don’t Cram: Start studying way before your test; don’t wait until the last minute. Also, try to spread out your studying times, even weeks ahead of time.
- Continuous Review: Test yourself often, don’t just read over the material. This will help you to retain the material better.
- Utilize Your Practice Test: Taking and using your practice test will help you better prepare for the testing format and familiarize yourself with the material.
- Focused Studying: Focus more on key concepts than just memorizing the material. Come up with play-on-words and memory diagrams to help you remember more complex information.
Day Before You Take Your Test: 🧘
- Review: Study key points again, but avoid studying at the last minute; this could give you overwhelming stress.
- Get plenty of sleep: Get 7-9 hours of sleep the night before. Our brains work better when rested than when sleep-deprived.
- Stay Calm: Relax the night before the test and try to do things you enjoy. This will help with stress levels.
Testing Day: 🚧
- Eat Healthy: Avoid sugary foods; this could cause you to crash later. Eat a good, wholesome breakfast.
- Arrive Early: Give yourself plenty of time so you're not in a rush and don't add any extra stress on yourself.
- Have all Necessary Items: Ensure you have your DOT physical card, Driver’s License, and anything else for identification.
Taking the Test: ✍️
- Read Instructions Carefully: Take your time and don’t rush yourself. Make sure you understand the directions.
- Manage Your Time: If you get stuck on a question, skip it, and return to it, you have that option. Don’t waste too much time on one question. (This could cause extra stress.)
- Stay Calm and Breathe. You’ve prepared and studied, so go in with confidence, knowing you’ve got this. Think positive, breathe, and take your time.
Getting Stuck on a Question: ❓
- Eliminate Wrong Answers: Try eliminating the answers you know are wrong first.
- Use Clues from Other Questions: Sometimes, this can give you hints to the question you’re working on.
- Breath: Take deep breaths and relax, don’t panic, and refocus.
Review Your Answers and Stay Positive: 🥳
- Don’t Second-Guess Yourself: Trust your instincts and initial answer.
- Stay Confident: Always keep a positive attitude and mindset.
- Relax: After your test is over, take time to relax. Know you did your best.
