Welcome to Your CDL-A Job Hunt
Getting your CDL-A is a big step. But let’s be real—getting hired takes more than just a license. If you’ve got second-chance barriers, the job hunt might come with more “no” before you get to “yes.” That’s not a sign you’re doing something wrong. That’s just how this works.
This guide is here to help you stay ready, stay focused, and keep moving forward until you land the job.

Job Search Tips That Work
Apply to 7–10 jobs every single day
-
Use keywords like:
entry-level CDL-A
recent graduate
willing to train
no experience CDL-A
However, still apply to jobs even if they ask for 3–6 months of experience
Keep track of every job you apply to in a notebook or spreadsheet
Call the company 3 business days after applying
Visit employers in person if you can
Set up a voicemail that’s clear, includes your name (Make sure to clear out old voice messages to free up space)
How to Use Indeed Without Wasting Time
Filters first. Start by selecting “Date Posted → Past 7 Days.” That helps you reach recruiters who are actually hiring right now.
Use the right keywords. Try things like:
recent CDL grad
entry-level CDL
willing to train
no experience CDL-A
Check the job location. If the role is OTR or regional, apply—even if the company is based in another state. Many of them hire drivers from across the country.
Skip old listings. If it’s been posted for more than a month, they probably already filled it.
Use the “Save” and “Applied” features. Then follow up later and stay organized using your tracking sheet.
