Instructions to order IN-PERSON
- Locate your nearest Social Security Administration office by clicking here or copying and pasting the following address into your browser: https://www.ssa.gov/locator
- Enter your ZIP code to see a list of offices nearest you.
- Click here to schedule an appointment with your chosen office. (Please note: You must have an appointment to visit an SSA office.)
- Go to the Social Security office with 1 form of ID
- Fill out a form at the office
- You'll receive your card in 7-14 days
Instructions to order ONLINE
1. Navigate here or copy and paste the following address into your browser: https://www.ssa.gov/number-card/replace-card
2. Follow the prompts to answer several identity questions to determine your eligibility to order online.
3. If permitted to apply online, select the Apply Online option. (If not permitted to apply online, see instructions above for ordering in person.)
4. Before continuing, you will be prompted to open an account with Login.gov or ID.me. If you already have an account with one of these providers, simply sign in. Otherwise, click Create an Account.
5. Once you have completed creating your account, you will be directed back to ssa.gov where you can begin filling out the application for your replacement Social Security card.
6. Once you have submitted the online application, you will receive your card in the mail within 7-10 days.

You will be asked for 1 form of ID when you create an account on ssa.gov
