How to Set Up Slack on a Laptop

A Success Coach explains how to set up Slack on your device in this 2-minute video.

Step 1: Log In to the Student Portal

• Open your laptop or computer and go to the FreeWorld Student Portal.
• Sign in using your FreeWorld credentials.

Step 2: Access the Slack Setup Section

• Scroll down to the section titled “Set Up the Slack App.”
• Click on that section to open it.

Step 3: Watch the Setup Video

• You’ll see a Slack setup video — watch it in its entirety.

Step 4: Join the Slack Community

• After the video, click the button that says “Click Here to Join Our Slack Community.”

Step 5: Begin Slack Sign-Up

• A new webpage will open (in your browser).
• Click “Continue with Email.”
• In the email box, enter the email you used to sign up with FreeWorld.

Step 6: Enter Your Name

• Type in your first and last name (must match your FreeWorld registration).
  • This helps FreeWorld know who you are in Slack.

Step 7: Get Your Verification Code

• Check your email inbox for a Slack verification code (it should be the most recent email).
• Copy the code (or write it down), then paste it into the Slack code entry box.

Step 8: Access Your Slack Workspace

• Once the code is submitted, Slack will open in your browser.
• You are now in the Free Agent Community Workspace on Slack!

Step 9: Explore Slack Features

• Inside Slack, you’ll see:
  • Channels where you can talk with your success coaches and fellow free agents.
  • Updates from the FreeWorld team.
  • Your profile, which you can edit (add a photo, update your display name, set a status, etc.).

You’ve successfully set up Slack on your laptop or desktop browser. You’re now connected with your FreeWorld community!

How to Set Up Slack on Android

Step 1: Access the Setup Video

• Log in to your Free World student portal.
• Scroll down to find the section titled “Set Up the Slack App.”
• Watch the setup video completely.

Step 2: Click the Button After the Video

• After the video finishes, a big button will appear at the bottom of the page.
• Click that button to begin the Slack setup process.

Step 3: Enter Your Email

• When prompted, enter the email address you used to sign up with Free World.
• Click “Next.”

Step 4: Open Your Email

• Click “Open Email App.”
  • If you're on your phone and the correct email app is installed (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo), it will open.
  • If it doesn’t, open your email manually in your browser.
• Look for an email from Slack (it should be one of the first emails at the top).

Step 5: Confirm Your Email

• Open the email from Slack and tap “Confirm Email.”

Step 6: Enter Your Name

• Slack will ask for your first and last name.
  • Enter the same name you used in your Free World account.

Step 7: Finish Setup

• Once you submit your name, a welcome screen will appear.
• Tap “Take Me to Slack.”

Step 8: Explore the Free Agent Community

• You will now see the Free Agent Community channel in Slack.
  • Here, you’ll receive updates from:
    • Other free agents in the program
    • Free World staff
    • Career Services team

Step 9: Customize Your Slack Profile

• You can update:
  • Your name
  • Profile picture
  • Status
• Be sure to keep all conversations professional and appropriate.

🎉 You're All Set!

You’ve successfully joined the Free World Slack workspace. You're now connected to the Free Agent community!

How to Set Up Slack on iPhone

A Success Coach explains how to set up Slack on your device in this 4-minute video.

Step 1: Watch the Setup Video

• Click the link provided in your student portal.
• Watch the “Set Up Slack App” video completely.
• Once the video finishes, tap the Exit button in the top left corner.

Step 2: Install the Slack App

• Before continuing, download the Slack app from the App Store.
  • Do not sign up yet.

Step 3: Join the Slack Community

• Go back to the Student Portal and tap the green button labeled “Click Here to Join Our Slack Community.”

Step 4: Sign In with Your Email

• Tap “Continue with Email.”
• Enter the email address you used when you signed up for Free World.
• Tap “Next.”

Step 5: Confirm Your Email

• Tap the option to “Open Email App.”
  • Use this only if you have the correct email app installed (like Gmail or Yahoo).
• If not, open your email using your web browser (e.g., Safari or Chrome).
• Find the Slack confirmation email.
• Open the email and tap “Confirm Email.”

Step 6: Finalize Your Slack Account

• Slack will reopen.
• Enter your full name (the name you signed up with in Free World).
• Double-check spelling, then tap “Create Account.”

Step 7: Enable Notifications (Optional)

• If you want to get updates from Slack, tap “Allow” when asked about notifications.

Step 8: Finish Intro Setup

• Follow Slack’s quick intro/setup process.
• You’ll now be inside the Free Agent Community on Slack!
• This is where you can see posts, updates, and messages from other free agents.

Step 9: Return to the Student Portal

• Go back to your student portal to continue with the next training video.

🎉 You’re Done!

You are now successfully signed in to Slack and part of the Free World community.
